The Wobbly Wallaby by Mike Skillicorn is a wonderful story of courage, perseverance, survival, and hope and it is encouraging for young readers to see how wallabies Jake, Peg, and Wally break away from the mob in search of food and water. The story has action and adventure and will keep readers glued to the book until the very end. The narration is detailed and descriptive and it makes the characters and the story vivid. The author manages to ignite a sense of urgency in readers as they follow the dangerous journey of the trio through the Australian outback and its hidden perils. The harsh conditions of the Australian outback, the dingoes, the wallabies and their will to survive make this an interesting and engaging story for children.

As an Indigenous Australian, I have read many books which I would consider to be utter nonsense about our animals and culture: Death of a Wallaby is definitely not one of them. A real diamond in the rough, this visual and emotional tale made me smile as it took me back to the days of John O'Grady and May Gibbs, both of whom also had the incredible knack of telling tales about the Australian bush and lifestyle in a way which every Aussie can most definitely identify with. I found myself hooked on every single word of this tale, even shedding many tears along the way. The talent of Mike Skillicorn is beyond reproach and I wish I had discovered this series one book earlier. I loved the realism of Death of a Wallaby and plan to seek out other titles, not only in this series but in any others with Mike Skillicorn's talent in projecting a story which I feel will be enjoyed by readers for many years to come. I recommend Death of a Wallaby to readers young and old, regardless of background or ethnicity, should they want a taste of the Australian way through the eyes of our native animals.

The Wobbly Wallaby has a highly creative storyline that is both educational and inspirational. Mike Skillicorn’s work expanded my knowledge about wallabies and other animals I’m not quite familiar with such as dingoes and Tasmanian devils. It also motivated me to think more positively during moments when I start to question the progress I’ve made in my journey. Wally’s character taught me a lot of things and the most important lesson I learned from him is embracing one’s imperfections. Aside from Wally the Wallaby, I was also amazed by Bongo and Horatio, the Tasmanian devils. Despite being lost, Bongo never gave up even when Horatio told him there was no hope. I’ll always keep these lessons in mind especially during trying times. This book is a praise-worthy and well-written piece and I found it well worth the read.
